A dump car is a one-piece metal self-unloading freight car of welded construction. It consists of a lower frame, a tilting body, unloading devices, a running gear, auto-braking and coupling devices.
Dump car unloads cargo with the help of pneumatic cylinders (one on each side), which tilts a cargo body for 45°. The cylinders are actuated by compressed air supplied directly from a locomotive or a stationary compressor unit. When the cargo body is tilted, the sideboard reclines towards the direction of unloading and serves as the extension of floor surface.
The opening mechanism of sideboard is of lever type. After unloading, the cargo body is set back to service position by gravity
