Straightening, tamping the way
Depending on the nature of the deviations, the type of rail fastening and the time of year, the track can be straightened by tamping of sleepers, and for KB type fasteners by laying shims between the rail and the pad. In winter time, the crutch fastening is corrected by laying cards between the lining and the sleeper. At sections with asbestos and sand ballast in the correction of individual subsidence, subject to the necessary requirements, the correction can be made by ballast under the sleepers
When correcting local deviations by tamping sleepers, firstly the railroad string with a smaller amount of subsidence is hung and aligned in longitudinal direction (by eye or with optical instruments); another railroad string is installed in the required level position, and then sleepers are tamped, the length of the tamped track section is determined by the string on which more sleepers are hung (separated from the ballast bed).
Tamping of sleepers and transfer beams can be tamped with end tampers, electrospinning, and flattener machines.
Manual padding, as a rule, is used for urgent and top-priority track repairs made selectively in time intervals between trains and requiring frequent coiling and deployment of works, for passing trains and transition of the crew from one place of repair to another.
The straightening of the railroad track of a preventive nature, in most cases, is performed with continuous sleeper piling on the section, so it is made with the use of track-leveling machines, and if they are not available – electrospinning.
